Tomato Festival, Part One
Saturday, 15 August 2026

My friend Bill finds information about all sorts of events here in New Jersey. For example, in April there was the open house at Roseberry House. This time it is a tomato festival on Saturday, 15 August. Weather looks good so off we will go. After all, New Jersey IS called The Garden State.
Company truck parked under a tree, right at the driveway leading in from the highway.
Tomatoes. Summer tomatoes, their glistening skins tightly packed over delicious, flavorful flesh.
Forget out-of-season tomato-shaped vegetable products with frequent flyer miles and no flavor.
Behind the counter people are busy arranging a diversity of tomatoes, more varieties than we knew existed.
All in prime condition, fat and juicy and loaded with flavor. Samples available, freshly cut
and labeled too. There are containers of salt, garlic salt too, for them as wants to embellish.
Baskets filled with yellow, orange, red, even anthocyanin purple, cherry and grape tomatoes.
Toothpicks available so visitors can stab their tasting sample (though I saw fingers in use too.)
Today the garden with beds of soft fruit, masses of sunflowers, and more
is open for visitors. Basil too. Wish there was some on the tasting counter.
There's more about the gardens in the entry Tomato Festival, Part Two.
